First Bill Clinton - Now Hillary? - Guide
Hillary Rodham Clinton - Smart Wolf In Sheep's Disguise?
There is a very great contrast from the WikiPedia-article on Hillary Clinton and then the rather less pretty stories we all saw when her husband, Bill Clinton, was in office.
Almost ironic that Season 5 of the TV series "24" (starring Kiefer Sutherland as CTU-agent Jack Bauer) is being sent at the time here in Denmark. When we see the actions of the corrupt Logan in the series, I see typical parallels to the way Mr. Clinton spoke of former presidents. He tried to become a state leader, and often used rather lofty language. But there was one thing he couldn't hide: his obvious obsession with younger women and his absolute disrespect for the office in the way he conducted himself. He was, if even possible, an even worse president than Jimmy Carter.
If qualifications had been an issue at the time Bill Clinton was elected, instead of the scandals of the Republican party at that time, he would never have made it into office. It's not a question of who thinks what, but just a clear view of the history of the politics coming from the Democratic party. Criticisms of opponents belong in election campaigns, but when the elections are over, any would-be statesman will recognize the duty to cooperate instead of tearing down.
The biggest challenge for Hillary Clinton will primarily be to convince people she wasn't behind the policies Bill Clinton stood for. If she ever succeeds in convincing people of this, she will still have numerous issues to deal with. I wish someone could convince US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to run for President. She is the one person that could bring back the pride of the United States of America as a moral world power. She would enjoy great worldwide respect, and would certainly be both a much prettier face in DC, but also a much stronger hand in the face of crisis - the latter is proven since she took over after Colin Powell.
Bill Clinton was never a winner when the going got tough... There isn't much that indicates that Hillary would be any tougher. In fact she is weak in all areas of national interest, although her position as Senator in New York could be her retreat when she gets kicked in the soon-to-come Presidential elections.
I have collected a few links to some of the "challenging" subjects Mrs. Clinton might nok like to be asked at electoral campaign sites around the US:
- The William J. Clinton Foundation - How will Hillary ensure that there would not be any conflicts of interests? Will she learn the lessons from allegations in Bill's two periods by introducing an independent council to monitor such things to ensure that even the appearance of any evil is hindered?
- The book "No One Left to Lie to: The Triangulations of William Jefferson Clinton" (by Christopher Hitchens) - It has often been a tactical trick in politics to say that critics are of a Republican observance. Here is a democrat who puts the spotlight on what Bill Clinton really was. Will Hillary be the same, or would she distance herself from his methods? [By implication: would Hillary Clinton lie to stay in office, if she was elected?]
- Impeachment trial in the Senate - Being disbarred, regardless of how long ago, is serious for any person. Is Hillary going to "whitewash" all the errors of her husband's former presidency, or will she take affirmative action to show that enough is enough? Could anyone expect Hillary Clinton to have the moral - and ethical - stamina to stand tall on this? Will she talk the talk, or walk the walk? Be mindful that allegations against the senior Bush in connection with the Iran contra "scandal" validates that Hillary should answer this. Though she might like not to do so...
- Everyone should read the recent article: "Why Does Hillary Clinton Fear Condoleezza Rice?" by Walter Williams. It provides very thought-provoking views about the way Mrs. Clinton considers and deals with the Afro-American culture. Written by an Afro-American doctor in economics from UCLA. This article is greatly recommended.
